DUBLIN REBELS 6-8 CORK ADMIRALS
Date: Sunday 22nd July 2007
Venue: Sportslink, Santry
SCORERS:
1st Quarter, No Scoring
2nd Quarter, REB Chris Winton 25yd run
3rd Quarter, ADS Keith O’Callaghan 16yd run. Alain Pezeron 2xpt
4th Quarter, No Scoring
REPORT:(from Admirals site)
Poor conditions on the day ensured that this semi final contest would be a hard, closely fought game. The first quarter saw teams trade punts numerous times. Although both rushing offenses did gain some yards, defenses stood firm and stopped drives. Martin Mulrey and Patrick duBoucher played well for the Admirals. Steve Archibald played well for the Rebels, recording an INT. In the second quarter the Rebels run game gained some yardage. Chris Winton was rewarded for his strong running with a breakaway score form 25 yards out, the conversion was not succesful.A Peter Lucey INT near his own goal-line stopped another scoring chance the Rebels had.
The second half started in much the same fashion as the first, with both defenses on top. Paul Grogan for the Rebels and John Duggan for the Admirals punted for huge yardage throughout the game and placed both offenses deep in their own territory. Pat Quinn had an INT for the Rebels in their own red zone after a good Cork possesion. Dominic McHale had some good catches in the third quarter to keep drives moving. Admirals ball carriers gained some good ground yardage on the way to the Cork score, a 16 yard run by O’Callaghan, converted by Pezeron. Conditions deteriorated even further during the second half, and a soggy field made passing difficult. A fourth quarter Barry Rafferty INT ended a good Rebels drive, after Winton and Marcus Naylor gained some ground.
With two minutes to play the Rebels took over after a fourth down stop near their 30 yard line. Winton had a first down carry on the first play of the drive. Good defense by the visitors prevented the Rebels form advancing into scoring range. Good pass coverage by Peter Lucey helped win the ball back for the Cork side who were able to end the game with kneeldowns.
Both sides played hard throughout, and the game was played in great competitive spirit, even on a poor day for quality football.

DUBLIN REBELS 06-00 BELFAST BULLS
Venue: Lucan
Sunday 8th July 2007
SCORERS:
1st quarter: No scoring.
2nd quarter: No scoring.
3rd quarter: No scoring.
4th quarter: REB Sam Hodgins 4 yd run.
REPORT:
The Dublin Rebels secured the number one seed for the Playoffs and the IAFL League Title today in a hard-fought, ‘trench warfare’ victory over a very strong Bulls team. Both defenses played outstandingly well, with some hard hitting on both teams. The Rebels were without QB Andy Dennehy, who was unavailable for the game, but back-up QB Marcus Naylor marshalled his offence well. Without the arm of Dennehy, however, the Rebels’ passing attack lacked the threat that it normally carries, and the Bulls’ defenders were able to key in on stopping the run, often putting nine defenders in the box and blitzing heavily on almost every play. Indeed the Bulls defense had a great day at the office, with Rusty Annette and Mark Helferty forcing picks from Naylor.
The Bulls had little progress on Offense, despite TE John Savage catching some nice passes from QB Calo in traffic. There was an outstanding display from every single one of the Rebels defense, not least Ross McCooey, Steve Wilson, Colclough Doran, Darren Conway, Pat ‘Whacker’ Quinn and Eoin Daly. Crucial first time tackles were made by both teams. Rebels DBs Steve Archibald and Marcus Naylor both came away with first half interceptions. The Rebels knocked on the door three times in the first half, getting into the red-zone through the elusive running of Sam Hodgins, who had his aggressive Offensive Line to thank for some nice running lanes. Indeed QB Naylor had a few scrambles for positive yardage himself. However, these drives were ended by a resilient and stubborn Bulls defence, with nose tackle ‘Suntan’ and MLB Mike Calo playing very well. The Bulls too had momentum stifled by the stingiest defence in the league. A fantastic defensive stand (in particular a touchdown saving tackle by Rebels’ DB Eoin Daly) towards the end of the half ensured that the teams were all-square going into the interval.
Into the second half the Bulls players began to tire a little under the relentless onslaught from the Rebels’ Offensive Line, who, to a man, notched it up through the gears. 3 yd gains became 7 yard gains, and Sam Hodgins ran his heart out, despite being persistently pounded by the aggressive Bulls. Indeed it was Hodgins who broke the deadlock midway through the fourth quarter, when he ran in unmolested from four yards out, after a great surge by the Rebels’ Offensive Line. The Bulls got the ball back with 2.17 left on the clock, after a superb punt from Naylor pinned them at their one yard line, but they could only find one first down and the game ended with a gang tackle on Bulls’ QB Calo as he tried in vain to make a play.
One score broke the deadlock and ultimately, this game could have gone either way. But the reigning champs dug in and grinded out a win to ensure home field advantage, number one seeding and the league title.

REPORT:
The Dublin Rebels dominated the Tallaght Outlaws 70-0 in a game marked by both the quality of the Rebels’ performance and the heart and fight shown by the vanquished Outlaws.
The Rebels scored on the opening drive when WR Barry Flinn plucked a high ball out of the air in the end zone from QB Dennehy. Dennehy then connected with WR Mike Kresowaty on a 15 yd pass and RB Chris Winton converted the 2xpt. Shortly before the end of the first quarter, RB Sam Hodgins caught a short pass from Dennehy and ran 60 yards for a touchdown, weaving and jinking his way to the endzone. The Rebels’ offence kept the momentum going for the second quarter. Dennehy hit WR Kresowaty again for a 20 yard touchdown pass, with the elusive receiver showing nifty footwork to dazzle the Outlaws’ secondary. RB Winton converted the 2xpt to make the score 28-0. The Outlaws had some good offensive plays against the tough Rebels Defense and managed some first downs, largely by running the ball. RB Dave O’Connor looked very good in his first full game at the position, managing to break some good runs against the usually stingy Rebels run Defense.
One of the highlights of the afternoon came when the Outlaws were forced to punt towards the end of the first half, Rebels DB Darragh (Wanabe Devin Hester) Farrell ran the return back 65 yards for his first ever touchdown. The next score came when Chris Winton ran in from a yard out and then converted his touchdown with the 2xpt, leaving the halftime score 42-0.
The Outlaws came out in the second half with a renewed sense of belief and showed a little more aggression, as did the Rebels Defense with sacks coming from Defensive Tackle Colclough Doran and Linebackers Ross McCooey and Andrew Gannon. Tiredness was a factor, and they could do nothing to stop Chris Winton storming home from 22 yds out for another touchdown, which he converted for the 2xpt.
In the fourth quarter, the Rebels Defense held firm and forced the Outlaws to punt, giving the Rebels offence good field position. This was capitalized upon quickly as Sam Hodgins ran in from 4 yds for another score. Next up Rebels’ Marcus Naylor, making a rare appearance at QB, hit WR Conor Ryan for a 27 yard touchdown pass. Rebels’ Tim White-Flynn converted the 2xpt. The last score of the game came when, as time expired, Sam Hodgins ran for 52 yards and a touchdown, displaying awesome lateral running ability and just how elusive he is.
Rotating every single player on their huge squad, for the full duration of the game, the Rebels were truly at their best today, with great performances on both sides of the football. The game was noted for the sense of fair play, honesty and good, clean football. With a few additions to their squad and a little more experience, the Tallaght Outlaws will be a force in the future.

REPORT:
The Dublin Rebels convincingly beat their fierce IAFL Central Division rivals, the Dublin Dragons, in a hard hitting but sometimes scrappy game.
The Rebels opened the scoring on their opening drive when, after some good running for successive first downs, Chris Winton stormed in from ten yards out. Winton converted his touchdown with a run for the 2xpt. The game then got very scrappy and was marred by indiscipline on both sides. Three players were ejected for a fracas halfway through the first quarter (one for the Rebels and two for the Dragons). On the next drive, Rebels’ MVP Winton ran for a 90 yard touchdown run, after some excellent blocking by the offensive line, which was outstanding in this game. Winton again converted his touchdown run.
The second quarter started with a series of four-and-outs, with the Dragons Offence unable to get anything going. When the Rebels got the ball back, Winton ran for his third touchdown of the day, this time weaving and rolling his way to an 80 yard score. Marcus Naylor converted the 2xpt to make it 24-0. On their next drive, after key receptions from WR’s Mike Kresowaty and Conor Ryan, QB Andy Dennehy connected with TE Mick Finucane on a pass and he barrelled home from 20 yards out to score the touchdown, leaving the score at the interval 30-0 to the Rebels.
The second half was a different affair. A resurgent Dragons team started to move the ball effectively on the ground and through the air. However, after penalties stifled their momentum, the Rebels scored again, this time on the ground, with Marcus Naylor running 75 yards for the touchdown. At the end of the third quarter, the Dragons’ fighting spirit finally paid off when they scored through the air on a 15 yd pass, with QB Schell connecting with veteran John Durrad. The Dragons scored again when Robert Pop ran in for a 10 yd touchdown run. After some key defensive plays by Rebels’ MLB Paul Weldon and a Kevin Finnegan interception, the Rebels had the final score, when QB Andy Dennehy connected with WR Kresowaty for a 15 yard touchdown pass, making the final score 42-12 to the Rebels.

Cork Admirals 26 – 28 Dublin Rebels
Venue: Sportslink, Santry
Sunday 29th April 2007
REPORT (from Admirals website):
On a great day for football the Admirals started off well, making the most of the good field and conditions to move the ball through the air on their opening drive for a David Lomasney touchdown pass to Dominic McHale. John Duggan kicked the PAT to make the score 7-0.
The Rebels first offensive play led to a turnover, and the visiting side extended their lead on the very next snap, Keith O’Callaghan rushing 17 yards for the score. On the subseqent series the Dublin side managed to move the ball effectively. Running backs Sam Hodgins and Chris Winton providing much yardage. QB Andy Dennehy connected with TE Paul Smyth for a score, which was converted, 13-8.
A second quarter John Duggan interception gave the offense good field position. David Lomasney and Dominic McHale made the most of the opportunity connecting for their second passing score of the day, the PAT making the score 20-8. After a good defensive series by the Admirals Hugh McBratney caught a short punt and set up the Cork attack in Rebels territory. Alain Pezeron broke free on a first down dive play and went the distance to make the score 26-8. With time running out in the first half the Rebels used a balanced attack to drive downfield. Another passing score inside one minute to play in the half made the score 26-16.
After the break the Rebels received the kick and moved the ball effectively. The Cork defense stood firm in their redzone however and prevented the Rebels from narrowing the score gap. Paul Buchanan, Barry Rafferty and Hugh McBratney had great performances on defense in the second half for the vistors. The Admirals offense was innefective on the next series, a first down penalty putting them in long-yardage situations.
The Admirals defense was again strong in preventing the Rebels from scoring on the next series. Now in the fourth quarter the Admirals offense managed only short drives, taking little time off the clock. Steve Archibald and Ross McCooey played well for the home side’s defense.
Strong running balanced off with intermittent completions on the Rebels next attack moved them into scoring range. Chris Winton finally got the score the Rebels had been looking for, 26-22.
On the ensuing kickoff Dave Barrry had a fantastic return to the Rebels 40 yard line, giving the Admirals great field position once more. Strong defense again held the Admirals, Marcus Naylor intercepted a fourth and seven pass near his own goal line. With under two minutes to go the Rebels stuck with the strong running that had brought them within reach, methodically moving downfield with runs, screens, and dump passes. Henry Wasserman turned a short pass into a long gain before Barry Rafferty made an spectacular touchdown saving tackle inside the 5 yard line. On first and goal Paul Buchanan had a tackle for loss in the Rebels backfield. On second and goal the Rebels fumbled, but the ball was recovered by offensive lineman Shane Campbell. Third and goal, the Admirals defensive linemen, Patrick DuBoucher and Chris Gaughan stopped a QB sneak attempt inches short of the goal line. On Fourth down with 15 seconds to play Sam Hodgins snuck over the goal line for the game winning score 26-28.
